THE VESSEL

The Vessel is a poetic exploration of the experience of living and human connection with nature. It is something beyond simple knowing, creating its bonds through our senses, emotions and compassion. Ceramic vessels featured throughout capture the essence of humanity. With every finger mark on their surface, they create artefacts of the past and souls of our heritage.

Their rough, imperfect surface embodies the marks we, as humans, leave on the world. Exploring this, evokes sensory intimacy and creates profound awareness of time and space. In the stillness of the landscape, I look for the sensitive quality through which I observe the meaning of humanity within the natural environment.

The project was created as a way to reconnect myself with my heritage and the feeling of humanness. Life doesn't offer these moments of thoughtfulness and quietness anymore. The rush and business keeps us unaware of the most inner pieces of ourselves that rekindle the moment we step into the natural world.

The belonging but also the feeling of fleeting, as if we are constantly losing that part of ourselves. By including raw, handmade sculptural pieces made from clay, I wanted to create a space for appreciation of simple forms and how much history is within them. With their shape and feel, that remains prominent in every photograph. The old mixing with new, creating a desire within me to harmonise folk traditions and historical transformations while embracing their own unique rhythms and rejoining them in this contemplation.
