EWUSIE | Torrential
SS26

British Fashion Council NEWGEN recipient Joshua Ewusie makes his debut at London Fashion Week presenting Torrential (EWUSIE’s Spring Summer 2026 collection).

Torrential draws inspiration from the unrelenting weather extremes of a London summer – those that cling to your skin, linger as you venture down gum-stained streets, and even amidst the continuous hustle and bustle of the city implore you to keep moving. Torrential isn’t just about the physical, sensory experience, but rather a journey through one, the somewhat alluring juxtaposition of exhaustion and euphoria, and the unshakable persistence of women forging paths for themselves from dusk until long past dawn.

Conceived in the restless months after his MA graduation, Torrential was inspired by Joshua reflecting upon and reliving school summers spent in overlooked corners of West London. Exploring age-old concrete, trudging through post-rain dampness and seeking in wild green stretches served as reminders of where he’d found refuge. In these familiar yet transitional moments, Joshua birthed a collection that balances heat with reprieve, the discipline of day-to-day with the freedom of night-to-night and proffers the quiet determination of women who grace the city on their own terms.

At its core, Torrential reaffirms Joshua’s commitment to spotlighting London’s enriching global stories, which have surrounded and shaped him. Growing up in London, Black and South Asian British identities overlapped and often blurred. The discovery of this intersection led him to find inspiration in Joy Gregory’s ‘Shining Lights’ anthology, featuring the works of other female diaspora photographers, such as Eileen Perrier and Sukta Biwas. Their images conveying joy, determination and identity played a pivotal yet highly overlooked role in building a cultural archive which was rarely acknowledged during their time.

Torrential presents the capsule spring/summer wardrobe for the EWUSIE woman. She hustles and adapts; she sweats and endures. From AM to PM, she moves hastily through the city that simultaneously allures and demands of her, navigating both its chaos and charm. Key pieces in the collection trace her evolution: ‘The Nsubura Edit’ reimagines West African Kente and Ankara cloth motifs into a cosmopolitan language, ‘The Lewisham Tee’ serves as a playful, graphic nod to faux-tropicalism, and ‘EWUSIE’s signature woven leather’ seen in the form of laser-cut bags, belts and garments anchors the brand’s heritage by subverting traditional techniques. Through Joshua’s creative direction, leather represents both sage and sensuality – like the EWUSIE woman. Hard enough to shield yet soft enough to seduce.

EWUSIE is often perceived as slick and sophisticated, but Torrential has a twang of irony and wit in its performance– a reflection of the duality of the women who wear it and, of course, the playfulness of its creative director. This season’s palette of turquoise blues and midnight blacks mirrors the rhythm of summer itself, heat, exhaustion, reprieve, then revival. A reminder that the best way to weather a storm is often to embrace it.
