What it is like Interning with O.M
Greta Pozaricka's Perspective

During my internship with Original Magazine, one of my tasks was to pull together a test shoot with a concept of mine. I was in control of contacting the modelling agencies and booking the models. As this was something I have never done before,  it was a little scary and intimidating as I had doubts that maybe no one will reply, or they will not be interested in the work. But in the end, I ended up with two agencies get back in touch and successfully secured two agency models for my shoot.

Planning the shoot was easy, I already had an idea that the shoot would involve flowers, as I wanted the flowers to reflect individuals' personalities. I just had no clue how it would look. After a long day of looking for inspiration, I had an idea how the flowers will be combined with the models and decided I needed to collaborate with a designer that makes colourful pieces to bring colour to the shoot. I managed to collaborate with designer @al.agato, her garments were simple, but also bright and colourful something that would work perfectly together.

Along with a designer I also needed to bring onto the team a makeup artist. That’s when I reached out to MUA, Aleksandra @aiamcclellan and explained the three different looks I was wanting to achieve on the day. The models were brilliant and easy to communicate with, everyone had a chance to share their thoughts during the shoot, on the mood board I had one idea, and I ended up doing something different - but this is sometimes the case when the shoot or project comes to life and you start to work with a creative team.

A few words from our Editors Michael & Emily…

During the internship, as Editors we were in the process of applying for accreditation for London Fashion Week SS23. Greta had already expressed and shown us that she was passionate about not just photography, but combining that with fashion as well; creating fashion editorials of her own. As always, during London Fashion Week we aim to offer as many opportunities to emerging artists and students and this is exactly what we did for Greta.

After a very successful internship we offered Greta the chance to join our creative team for London Fashion Week SS23 and secured her a photographers pass for Fashion Scout that returned this season. As Editors, we are passionate about offering as much as we can with the means we have at O.M and we were delighted when Greta took us up on our offer. By extending Greta’s experience with us, she was able to experience fashion week for the very first time shooting designer catwalks from J.E Cai, JU-NNA, Fashion London and Pam Hogg and building her folio, confidence and created a chance to network within the industry.

During my internship, I was very nervous about how everything would go. As a person, I am shy, and the whole process made me stressed. I had many thoughts about the internship. Will it be a fast working space? Is it going to be difficult? What am I going to do?

At the end of the day, Michael and Emily were very kind, and they always made sure we were okay during the whole time of our internship. What I liked the most was there were two interns, Haley and I. We were both completely different, and we have different interests, they took that into consideration, and made two different briefs that focused on different things. I was focusing on the fundamental skills to pull together a creative team, how to reach out to agencies, approach other artists and finally conduct the final shoot. Haley was focused on exploring musicians within London and documenting their lives and processes, something very different but we were able to support each other and share our thoughts one another’s ideas.

An important skill I learnt during this internship, was my time management skills. They gave us tasks that would challenge us, but also enable us to manage other aspects of our lives for example; University and/or work commitments. For me it was an example that if you spend your time organised, you not only can do the task that you were given during the internship and from University, but also you can create small shoots yourself and do different things. I had excellent communication with Michael and Emily, they always had time for conversations and to listen to the things that worried me, helped with solving problems and made the whole experience interesting and useful.
